Leatherback, translucent, hypo, zero, witblits — morph names describe looks, not quality. Use the finder below to match what you see, then read the health notes: a few morphs need extra care with UVB, shedding or sun exposure. Care, heating, UVB and diet are identical for every morph.

Common bearded dragon morphs

Morph What it looks like Health / care note
Normal / wild-type Rough spiky scales, brown-tan-grey pattern Hardy baseline; standard care
Leatherback Smooth back, smaller scales, vivid color Skin can be slightly more sensitive; watch shedding on toes and tail tip
Translucent (trans) Clear-looking belly, dark eyes, pale skin as babies May be more light-sensitive; give plenty of shade and hides, avoid over-strong UVB
Hypomelanistic (hypo) Reduced dark pigment, clear nails, bright colors No specific disorder; standard care
Zero Patternless silver-grey, no dark markings Light-colored skin — provide shade gradient, watch for sunburn under intense basking
Witblits Patternless pale, cream to grey Same as Zero: shade plus normal UVB gradient, monitor sheds

We make no claims about price or value — morph markets change fast and depend on lineage, not just looks. Buy from a reputable breeder who feeds, heats and houses babies correctly, and take any new dragon for a reptile vet check plus fecal test. Avoid breeding two translucent dragons together unless guided by an experienced breeder and vet, as some pairings carry higher defect risk.

FAQ

Do morphs need different care?

No. Enclosure size, basking temperatures, UVB, diet and supplements are the same. Only the sensitivity notes above differ — mainly shade and shed checks.

How do I know which morph my dragon is?

Match scales, pattern and nails to the table, then ask the breeder for the pairing. Pet-store labels are often wrong; lineage matters more than looks.
