Poop is one of the best early warning signs you have. Search what you’re seeing to find the common causes and how urgently to act. This guide doesn’t replace a reptile vet — anything with blood, a bloated belly or a lethargic dragon needs one.

What healthy poop looks like

A healthy bearded dragon passes a brown, formed log with a white or off-white urate — the solid form of urine. Babies go daily; adults every few days, depending on how often they eat insects.

When to see a vet

  • Blood or red coloring
  • Runny poop for more than 3 days, or very foul-smelling runny poop
  • No poop for over a week when not brumating, especially with a swollen belly
  • Any change combined with not eating or lethargy

Take a fresh sample (within a few hours) in a sealed bag — vets use it for a fecal parasite test.

FAQ

Why is the urate yellow or orange?

Usually mild dehydration or too much calcium or vitamin supplementation. Offer baths and more hydrating foods, and review your dusting schedule.

Can a bath help my dragon poop?

A 10–15 minute warm bath (about 90–95 °F / 32–35 °C) often helps and is a good first step for mild constipation.
